Knox man faces charges of crop damage

A 20-year-old Knox man faces charges after he allegedly drove through wheat and corn fields in Salem Township, causing more than $2,500 in damages.

According to court documents, state police responded to a complaint at the corner of McCleary and Old State roads.

A known male victim told police someone had drove through his wheat and corn fields. While there was little damage to the wheat, the corn field sustained about $300 in damage loss.

The farmer, who rents the fields, told police the owner of the field had a trail camera at the site and it captured a photograph of a blue Buick in the field.

The farmer told police he noticed a blue Buick at a residence along Old State Road.

Vantassel allegedly told police he had picked up some friends along State Route 208 and could not specify which roads he drove along July 31.

Police allegedly observed corn and wheat residue on the blue Buick parked in front of the residence.

Vantassel allegedly told police he knew what he did was wrong and he understood the consequences of his actions.

On Aug. 2, police responded to a report of damage to two corn fields along Spook Hollow Road.

Damage to those fields is estimated at $2,500.

The farmer in the second case told police an employee at his father’s business in Knox allegedly saw Snapchat videos of Vantassel driving through the corn fields.
