Kmart stores in Franklin, Clarion will remain open

From staff reports

Kmart stores in Franklin and Clarion were saved from another round of cuts made to the national retailer on Thursday.

An announcement on the Sears Holdings website said that 28 Kmart stores will close later this year as the company continues to transform its business model. Kmart is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corp.

This is the third round of cuts made by Sears Holdings this year, bringing the total number of closed Kmart and Sears stores to 177 and 50, respectively.

Two Kmart stores set to close in Pennsylvania are in Allentown and Willow Grove.

Earlier this summer, Sears Chairman and Executive Officer Eddie Lampert announced that the Sears store in the Cranberry Mall was among eight Sears locations that will close. The Cranberry store, which has been an anchor tenant since the mall’s opening in 1981, will close in early October.
