Keystone High School instruction goes remote

From staff reports

After three individuals associated with Keystone High School in Knox this week tested positive for the COVID-19 virus (and a fourth seems “probable”), Keystone High School instruction all will by “remote learning” through the Thanksgiving break.

The change was effective Nov. 11.

Keystone Superintendent Shawn Algoe made the announcement in a correspondence to the school community late Tuesday afternoon.

Algoe said that “in a period of about 45 minutes late (Tuesday) afternoon, we were made aware of three new positive COVID-19 cases associated with Keystone Junior-Senior High School. One additional case is pending, although is presumed positive. Those cases push us beyond the acceptable threshold of in-person teaching and learning.

All junior-senior high school events and activities are also canceled or postponed through Nov. 25, Algoe said.

The school will tentatively reopen for in-person teaching and learning Tuesday, Dec. 1, according to Algoe.

Keystone Elementary School has no positive or probable cases within the building, and as a result the elementary school will remain open for in-person teaching and learning, Algoe’s correspondence said.

“We’ve done everything within our power to avoid this transition,” Algoe said. “With that being said, current circumstances require moving to a more remote-based instructional model to proactively mitigate the spread of COVID-19 among our school community,” he added.
