Keystone appoints assistant principal

The Keystone School Board May 16 hired Jason Best as assistant high school principal, effective July 1 at an annual salary of $70,000.

Best moves into the position vacated by Kelli McNaughton who in turn was hired as high school principal to replace Brad Wagner who retired from the job.

Best was a sixth-grade teacher with the district.

In a related move, the board agreed to extend Bill Irwin’s substitute athletic director position for up to nine days per month for the 2022-23 school year through ESS, a substitute employee service.

Irwin, who retired a couple of years ago, has been serving as interim athletic director.

The board anticipates Irwin training Best for the athletic director position during the 22-23 school year before Best assumes the role in 23-24.

In other personnel relater moves May 16, the board:

Extended the work week of Samantha Toy, speech pathologist, to five days per week for the 2022-23 school year, using ARP ESSER grant funds.

Approved posting and advertising for a full-time, permanent math teacher for the 2022-23 school year.

Approved hiring custodian Scott Dowlan as summer maintenance worker with a $1 per hour premium effective May 31 through Aug. 19.

Approved the hiring of two summer custodial workers at $11.75 per hour effective May 31 through Aug. 19.

Accepted the letter of resignation from Chelsea Mong as varsity cheer/competitive cheer coach, effective immediately.

Approved Chuck Weaver as a football program volunteer.

Approved contracting with Maria Vaughn as school psychologist effective July 1 through June 30, 2027.

Approved an addendum with ESS (substitutes service) to allow for the use of ESY paraprofessionals, a speech pathologist (full-day and half-day) if needed, retired teachers (full-day and half-day), retired paraprofessionals and retired custodians.

Approved annual contracts for professional services with auditor Troese and Associates and school physician Dr. Carroll.

Approved the 2022-23 contract with Highmark for employee healthcare coverage at various rates at 4.2 percent increases.

Approved a two-hour early dismissal for May 26.
