Kayaking program at Cook Forest State Park

COOK FOREST STATE PARK — A Kayaking 201 class will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at Cook Forest State Park.  Participants should meet at the park office for an intermediate skill level kayaking class.

Attendees should take swimsuits, sturdy river sneakers, change of clothes and lunch.  Water and snacks provided. Participants will get wet.  The class is designed to integrate skills learned in Introduction to Kayaking and Kayaking 101.  It will focus on T-Rescues, Self Recovery, Buddy Assists and ferrying.  Participants must pre-register prior to the course by contacting the park office at (814) 744-8407.

The class is limited to 10 participants.  No children under 16 years old will be accepted and minors must be with with a participating adult.  This course can be used as a pre-requisite to Kayaking 301 and to justify skill level requisites for more advanced river boating programs to be held later this year.

The park will also host a Kayaking 301 course at 10 a.m.  Friday, June 30. This is an advanced skill level kayaking class.  Participants must pre-register by calling (814) 744-8407.
