Job fair scheduled at Clarion Mall

People looking for employment in the tri-county area might want to try their luck today at the Clarion Mall, where a job and education fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“There have been a lot of businesses that have reached out to us to say that they need employees,” said Tracy Becker, executive director of the Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry, which is hosting the event.

“Usually we would do this at the end of March, but with the pandemic still going on we decided to do it a little later in the season.”

In addition to what Becker described as “different jobs for different people” as being available, she said educational institutions will have information for anyone interested in picking up classes.

Becker said although the chamber has held job fairs in the past, this year is critical.

“Employers are screaming for employees,” she said, including one restaurant owner who told her the business is in need of cooks, servers, and dishwashers. “The restaurants need people even more so because they were limited to what they could do.”

There are more than 50 businesses registered for the fair, according to Becker, and that employers scheduled to be present are representatives from manufacturers, trucking companies, Clarion Hospital and Clarion County.

“I know the housing manufacturers are trying to build six, seven, or eight homes a day to keep up with the demand for housing,” she said. “In order to meet that demand you need employees. There is a huge, huge need for employees.”
