J.C. Penney says Clarion store to stay

From staff reports

J.C. Penney in Clarion has survived the company’s latest round of cuts.

The department store chain will be closing 138 stores nationwide and a supply chain facility in Lakeland, Florida, as part of a continuing effort to advance sustainable growth and long-term profitability, according to a news release.

A supply chain facility in Buena Park, California, will also be relocated to align with the company’s physical store footprint and omnichannel network, the news release said.

About 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the move and most of the affected stores will begin the liquidation process on April 17.

Pennsylvania locations that are included in the list of upcoming closures include department stores in Bloomsburg, Clearfield, King of Prussia, Philadelphia, Towanda and Pennsdale.

J.C. Penney closed its location at the Cranberry Mall in April 2016.
