Clarion Historical Society Director Mary Lea Lucas is planning something special this fall: an historic haunted house.
“We’re hoping it will be an annual thing,” she added.
The haunted house to be held in the Sutton-Ditz Museum is a fundraiser. Lucas wanted to develop a fundraising event that was seasonal, fun and family-friendly. Visitors will be charged admission to support the society, though these will be “minimal.”
While Lucas doesn’t wish to share too many details she wants to surprise visitors she hinted the haunted house will be a mix of old mysteries and modern thrills. Each room will have its own theme, with authentic antique props.
Noting the museum’s Victorian casket and portable Egyptian embalming kit will be among the things displayed, Lucas mentioned a mad scientist lab and an Adam’s Family photo-op are being developed. Local lore including the museum’s own “resident spirit” will be incorporated, too.
Lucas suggests the community starts looking for information about the haunted house closer to the Autumn Leaf Festival. Fliers and banners will be displayed around town at that time.
Volunteers are always welcome, according to Lucas. Anyone interested in helping out with or participating in the haunted house should contact the historical society at 226-4450.
