Hearing on I-80 toll plan set

From staff reports

U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson announced Friday that he will be at a hearing in Clarion on April 1 to hear from people who would be most impacted by tolling bridges on Interstate 80.

According to a news release from Thompson’s office, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Yassmin Gramian, along with federal, state and local elected officials, will receive testimony from stakeholders and community members who have concerns with PennDOT’s proposal.

A list of participating officials and witnesses will be made available in the coming days, the release said. No time or venue were listed in the release.

The hearing is titled “Local Voices: Examining PennDOT’s P3 Major Bridge Tolling Proposals.”

“While PennDOT has a process for public comment, I believe it is imperative that the secretary hear first-hand the concerns of the local community,” Thompson said.

“It will be a good opportunity for PennDOT to make their case as to why a further tax burden should be placed upon Pennsylvanians, who already pay the second highest gas tax in the country.”
