Forest County disburses Rural School funds

Forest County commissioners handled some routine matters at their meeting Wednesday.

In addition to paying the county’s monthly bills, the commissioners approved the distribution of more than $1 million in Secure Rural School funding to the nine townships in the county and Forest Area School District.

Meanwhile, the county chose to receive Title I funding rather than take 25% of the proceeds from timber cut in the Allegheny National Forest, commissioner Bob Snyder said.

Snyder noted the Secure Rural School funding brings more money into the county than the timber proceeds.

In other business Wednesday, Snyder said the county recently got the go ahead to put up a broadband tower in Barnett Township on land owned by Collins Pines.

The tower is part of the county’s multi-year broadband expansion plan.
