Forest commissioners handle a few matters

Forest County commissioners dealt with a few matters during their meeting Wednesday.

The commissioners approved paying Second Harvest Food Bank $7,850 from emergency food funds received by the county as part of COVID-19 emergency funds.

The money will be earmarked to assist with the Forest Area backpack program and food purchases for the food banks in Tionesta and Marienville.

In other business Wednesday, commissioners chairman Mark Kingston said the recount in the U.S. Senate GOP race between Mehmet Oz and David McCormick went well.

“Our numbers didn’t change,” Kingston said.

Kingston also said commissioner Basil Huffman is continuing to recover after he was involved in a car crash more than a month ago and was found to have an underlying condition that landed him in the hospital for a while.

“He is doing much better,” Kingston said. “He has been in the office a couple of mornings and is trying to get back into doing things. He is doing well,” Kingston added.

Huffman did not attend Wednesday’s meeting.
