Film festival coming to Sawmill

COOKSBURG – The kickoff year of the Sawmill Film Festival at the Sawmill Theater will present both feature length and short films from local and area movie makers in the heart of Cook Forest. For three nights, audiences can enjoy films of all genres, ask the filmmakers questions about how they were made, and stay at one of the many getaway cabins nearby.

The festival will be held from July 28 to 30, with each night’s screenings starting at 8 p.m. at the Sawmill Theater located at 140 Theatre Lane, Cooksburg. Tickets for each night are $15 with two-day passes for $25 and three-day passes for $35. Pre-orders for tickets and reservations can be made by email at info@sawmill.org or by calling (814) 927-6655.

Films include “Broke Down” and “Mount Joy” for July 28; “Hey, Coach,” “Howitzer Tales: The Survivalist,” “Heels on Wheels,” “Dreamlords,” “Age of Kaos,” and “Summer Hatch” on July 29.

Saturday, July 30, films are “Blue Card” and “Blood on the Leaves.”

Organizer and local filmmaker Chad Barnard believes screening ten films throughout the festival and holding question and answer sessions with the filmmakers will not only draw audiences to the beautiful Sawmill Theater, but raise awareness that movies are not just made in Hollywood they are made right in our own backyard.

About The Sawmill Film Festival

In the fall of 2015, Chad Barnard, along with other area filmmakers, shot the feature film”Blood on the Leaves” primarily in Cook Forest. After premiering the film in June in Pittsburgh and DuBois, Barnard decided to organize a three-night event at the Sawmill Theater to help highlight the rise of local filmmaking.

The Sawmill Center for the Arts and their destination location has been a perfect fit for a festival aiming to represent the best in Pennsylvania movie production.
