Events scheduled at Sawmill theater

COOKSBURG — The Verna Leith Sawmill Theatre will open for the season with live music from two bands The Charlie Wheeler Band on Saturday, May 27, and Clurichaun Thursday through Saturday, June 1-3.  Shows begin at 8 p.m. nightly.

The Charlie Wheeler Band is a blues rock trio from Ridgway.  The group writes and performs their own music, which they describe as “exuding a toughness that can only be cultivated in the working class environment.”  Their lyrics tell stories of life, love and living on the edge, and their music is reminiscent of the Black Crowes and The Allman Brothers.

In stark contrast, Clurichaun plays traditional Celtic music.  Audience members will enjoy music in the folk tradition of the Celtic people of Ireland and Scotland.

There will be several theater companies, performing musicals and plays this season at the Sawmill Theatre.

Included on the theater’s schedule are:
— French & Indian History Storytelling, June 8-10
— “Hootenanny” presented by the Clarion Community Theater, June 15-17, 22-24
— “Clue” presented by the Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild, June 29-July 1, July 6 – 8
— “Godspell” presented by the Reitz Theatre, July 13-15
— “The Drunkard” presented by the Knox Community Theatre, July 19-22
— Wild Excellence Film, July 27-29
