Edinboro Univ. seeks high school journalists for competition

From staff reports

EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University is seeking entries for its 10th annual Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Journalism Competition.

The competition is designed to recognize journalistic talent among high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. It is open to all students currently in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades who have an interest in journalism.

“This competition is an important part of our annual High School Journalism Day, and we are hoping to attract a large number of outstanding entries this year as we mark the 10th anniversary of this great event,” said Dr. Tony Peyronel, chairman of the Department of Journalism and Public Relations.

Cash prizes, provided by Meadville Tribune, YourErie.com, JET-TV and FOX 66, will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. One “Best in Show” winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to Edinboro University.

Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges that includes faculty members from the Department of Journalism and Public Relations and student staff members from the department’s campus media organizations.

Students are invited to compete four print journalism categories (news, feature, sports and opinion), one web publication category, three photo journalism categories (news photo, sports photo and feature photo) and three broadcast journalism categories (broadcast news package, newscast anchor and podcast/vodcast). Entries must be received by March 18.

All winners and a guest (guidance counselor, teacher or parent) will be invited to an awards luncheon on April 8 that will be held as part of Edinboro University’s High School Journalism Day.

Entry forms and competition guidelines are available on the Events page of the Department of Journalism and Public Relations web pages on the university website, www.edinboro.edu.
