‘Dr. Phil’ show comments questioned in fetus cutting case

LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Defense attorneys for a woman accused of cutting an unborn baby from another woman’s womb want to keep comments the victim made during an appearance on the “Dr. Phil” show from being heard at trial.

The Daily Times-Call reports attorneys for Dynel Lane have cited 18 specific things Michelle Wilkins said on the September episode of the show, including comments regarding the viability of the baby, who did not survive, and her comments on motherhood and family life.

Prosecutors say there’s no need for the judge to rule on the comments ahead of the trial.

Lane is charged with attempted murder, unlawful termination of a pregnancy and multiple counts of felony assault. Prosecutors say she attacked Wilkins on March 18.
