Distracted driving citations increase

Distracted driving citations increased by 52 percent statewide in 2017 and have increased 172 percent since 2013.

In Pennsylvania all drivers are prohibited from texting while driving, which includes sending, reading or writing a text-based message or e-mail, and from wearing or using headphones or earphones while the car is in motion.

In Clarion County in 2017, police issued three citations for texting while driving; nine citations for use of a hand-held telephone while driving; 37 citations for use of headphones while driving and 39 citations for engaging in text-based communications while driving for a total of 88 citations, up from 42 total on 2016.
