The weather is improving and that means it is time for Spring Cleaning in Clarion County.

The Clarion County board of Commissioners March 3 discussed the possible auction of old county vehicles and other equipment.

Mary Lutz, of the county’s human services department said that department has seven automobiles that it will dispose of. She said two of the vehicles have been sitting for years and one is not drivable.

“We will be lucky to get $100 for them,” she said.

There are also two sheriff’s vehicles, a snowplow, some old office equipment and an emergency vehicle no longer used by the county.

Commissioner Ted Tharan said other equipment would be sold at the same time. That equipment includes an icemaker and coolers from the former Holabaugh beer distributor.

The 8,000 square-feet Holabaugh building was purchased for $150,000. It is used for equipment and record storage.

Tharan said the county has other, unspecified equipment from other projects.

The vehicles are being stored at the county park in Paint Township. Currently, the public cannot view the vehicle because the park is closed.

Tharan suggested the auction could be held at the former Holabaugh building along U.S. Route 322 at the top of River Hill near Dairy Queen.

Lutz said one of the vehicles would need to be towed to the auction site.

Commissioner Ed Heasley asked if the vehicles had to be sold by the bid process or if they could be auctioned.

That question will be needed to be resolved. No date has been set for the auction.
