Cook Forest hosts ‘’Living History’ weekend

COOK FOREST – Cook Forest State Park invites the community to join them Memorial Day weekend, May 27 through May 29, for a fun-filled weekend of living history as they journey through various historical eras including French and Indian, Revolutionary War, Industrial Revolution, Civil War, World War II and the War on Terror.

Living historian and master story-teller, Paul Stillman from “Historically Speaking!” and historical interpreters, Dave Clark and Dennis Knowles as they take visitors through these noteworthy periods in history through first person character portrayals, and hands-on demonstrations.

The weekend schedule is:

8-9 p.m. Friday, May 27 Paul Stillman as “Nasty Ned the Frontiersman.” An 18th Century teller of tall tales and historical facts. He blends folk tales and history into an entertaining and lively performance.

Please bring chairs and blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park amphitheater.

10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 28 Paul Stillman as a “Seneca Indian.” A Native American visits from the past on his trip from New York as he travels south along the historic Olean Trail.

Please bring camp chairs to Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning classroom.

1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28 Dale Luthringer presents “Logging, Dogging and Hewing: An 1800s Timber Operation.”

Please bring camp chairs to the Log Cabin Inn environmental learning classroom.

3-4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28 Paul Stillman, Dennis Knowles and Dave Clark present “The North meets South.” Come see the Civil War through a New York regimental line soldier and Rebels of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Please bring camp chairs to the Log Cabin Inn environmental learning classroom.

8-9 p.m. Saturday, May 28 Paul Stillman as “Theodore Roosevelt,” the 26th president and former Governor of New York. Learn about his fascinating life.

Please bring chairs and blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park amphitheater.

1-2 p.m., Sunday, May 29 Dave Clark as a “World War II G.I. of the 28th Infantry Division.” Hear what it was like to be a part of the Keystone Division as they stormed the beaches of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and beyond.

2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, May 29 Paul Stillman as a “‘Colonial Craftsman.” Learn how things were made during the early part of the 18th Century during a quill and bamboo pen fabrication workshop.

4:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29 Dennis Knowles as a “Line officer in Afghanistan.” Learn about those who continue to give their all to defend the nation from terrorists at home and abroad.

8-9 p.m. Sunday, May 29 Paul Stillman as “Thomas Stillwell: Revolutionary War Soldier.” A militiaman’s view of the war that won this country’s freedom in the 18th Century.
