Clarion Fire and Hose Co. No. 1 recently handed out more than 150 smoke detectors to Clarion Area Elementary School students and their families. During Fire Prevention Week this past fall it was discovered many students did not know what a smoke detector sounded like. A letter was sent home with students asking their parents or guardians if they needed smoke detectors for their homes. There was an alarming number of homes without smoke detectors so the fire department stepped in and donated smoke detectors to those who needed them.
