Clarion, Venango totals climb

The state Department of Health on Thursday announced Clarion County reported 27 new cases of COVID-19 (six confirmed and 21 probable) and Venango County reported 46 new cases (42 confirmed and four probable).

Venango County, the state said, now has a cumulative total of 504 cases (386 confirmed and 118 probable).

The one-day jump in the county’s case numbers comes a day after the DOH announced a spike in cases among residents and employees at Oil City Healthcare & Rehabilitation. The facility reported 42 positive cases among residents and 33 positive cases among employees.

Calls by the newspaper to the DOH to inquire if Thursday’s 46-case jump includes the statistics from the care facility, reflects community spread or is a combination of both were not returned.

Clarion County, the state said, now has a cumulative total of 413 cases (279 confirmed and 134 probable).

Forest County, the state said, holds at a cumulative total of 24 cases (20 confirmed and four probable).

Elsewhere in the region

Mercer County, the state said, reported 88 new cases (59 confirmed and 29 probable), giving the county a cumulative total of 1,648 cases (1,358 confirmed and 290 probable).

Crawford County, the state said, reported 70 new cases (47 confirmed and 23 probable), giving the county a cumulative total of 883 cases (664 confirmed and 219 probable).

Statewide statistics

– The state on Thursday reported 5,488 new statewide positive cases, 777 more than the number reported Wednesday, raising the cumulative total of cases to 248,856 (234,125 confirmed and 14,731 probable). There are 13,202 cases among health care workers.

The latest daily cases increase is the highest total recorded since the start of the pandemic, according to the state.

Statewide there are 2,080 individuals with COVID-19 who are hospitalized, and 438 of those patients are in intensive care units, according to the state. Most of the patients hospitalized are age 65 or older.

The number of new positive cases reported Thursday marks 38 consecutive days in which more than 1,000 new cases were reported and 11 consecutive days in which more than 2,000 additional cases were reported.

Additionally, there have been more than 3,000 new cases reported in six of the past seven days and there have been more than 4,000 new cases reported in four of the past six days.

Fewer than 1,000 new cases have been reported in 137 of the past 193 days.

– Statewide, there were 49 new deaths reported Thursday, raising the total to 9,194, the state said. Most of the cumulative deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

Care facilities

– A nursing and personal care facilities list, a cumulative table compiled by the state that is updated daily, now shows Venango County with 48 resident cases and five employee cases among three unnamed facilities.

That same chart continues to show Clarion County with 21 resident cases, 16 employee cases and one death reported among five unnamed facilities.

– Statewide data on nursing and personal care facilities show there are now 28,576 resident cases and 5,972 cases among employees for a total of 34,548 cases at 1,132 distinct facilities in 63 counties.

-The state said there are a total of 5,999 deaths that have been reported from nursing and personal care facilities.

Recovery rate and testing

– The state continues to report a statewide recovery rate of 71%.

– The number of statewide tests administered between Nov. 5 and Wednesday is 331,492, including 25,702 positive results, according to the state.

– The number of people in the tri-county area who have tested negative for the virus, the state said, is 11,970. Statewide, there have been 2,506,649 people who have tested negative.

Area health systems

– Butler Health System on Thursday reported Clarion Hospital had collected 7,625 specimens for COVID-19 testing through Wednesday, including 6,281 tests at the hospital’s outdoor collection site. A total of 368 tests were positive for the virus.

As of Wednesday, the hospital has five COVID-19 in-patients (two confirmed and three suspected).
