Clarion seeking police officers

CLARION – Clarion Borough Council at its latest session announced the borough is looking to hire part-time police officers.

Public Safety Committee Chair Ben Aaron said, “With several people leaving and with vacations coming up for the season” we will need some more officers.

Aaron also said it doesn’t cost the borough anything to keep part-time police officers on call.

– Clarion Borough approved a special event request from Clarion University Activities Board Campusfest to hold a concert on April 22, 2017. No information was provided as to who will be performing.

– Council approved a Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry request to offer free parking in the borough on Monday, Nov. 21 for Customer Appreciation Day and from Nov. 28 through Dec. 25 for the holiday shopping season.

– Council approved for Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry to request hold a Christmas parade Monday, Nov. 21.

Line up for the parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church and the parade will start at 6 p.m.

– Clarion Borough will be sending in an application for the 2016 Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $93,000.

Attached to the application is a three-year Community Development Plan for submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

– The borough will be advertising for part-time Public Works employees to drive plow trucks for the upcoming winter season.

Applicants must have a CDL-Class B license.
