From staff reports
Clarion Conservation District, Pale Whale Canoe Fleet, and their partners, are planning a Clarion River cleanup to celebrate the waterway being named 2019 River of the Year.
The cleanup event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 and will cover three sections of the National Wild and Scenic Clarion River near Cook Forest State Park.
Interested volunteers may register from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Cooksburg Cafe, 122 Riverside Drive, Cooksburg. Parking will be available in a designated area at Pale Whale.
Volunteers may use their own kayaks or canoes, or Pale Whale will provide canoes, free of charge, to those participating in the river cleanup.
All participants will be transported to and from launch sites. Appropriate shoes are recommended to wear in the river for the individual’s safety.
CCD, along with their co-sponsors, will be hosting a reception for the volunteers after the cleanup with pizza and prizes.
DCNR will also provide a program on recycling and sustainability at the reception.
In case of poor river conditions on the day of the event, an alternate date of Sept. 28 was chosen.
