Clarion principal Kimmel hired as Union superintendent

Union School District has a new superintendent.

John Kimmel, the high school principal at Clarion High School, was hired last week by the district to replace Jean McCleary.

Kimmel received a three-year contract, and he will assume his new position July 1.

Kimmel, a Clarion native, has been the principal at Clarion for the past five years. He graduated from Clarion Area High School in 1997 and received a bachelor’s degree from Clarion University in 2002.

He taught in Maryland for two years before returning to Clarion County. He was employed by Union School District as a science teacher from 2004 to 2008.

In 2008, Kimmel was hired as principal at Jeff Tech in Jefferson County. He was hired as principal at Clarion Area High School in March of 2014.

Union School Board also approved memorandums of understanding last week between Union School District and the Union Education Support Personnel Association and between the school district and the Union Education Association.
