Cathy Zerbe, a nurse with Clarion Hospital’s medical surgical unit, received the Linda Steiner-Mander Nursing Excellence Award Wednesday during a ceremony at the hospital.

As a conclusion to National Nurses Week, the award is given to a nurse who has been nominated by his or her peers.

The hospital’s Personal Development Quality Nursing Committee created the award last year to recognize a member of the nursing staff who exceeds patient and hospital expectations.

The award is named after Linda Steiner-Mander, who retired after 40 years of nursing at Clarion Hospital.

Before presenting Zerbe with the award, Steiner-Mander said there were many nominations to choose from this year, but Zerbe, who has been with the hospital since 1987, stood out.

“Her dedication and commitment to nursing was one of the many reasons why she was chosen to receive the award,” a press release from the hospital said.
