Clarion Hospital adjusts policies to guard against COVID-19

From staff reports

Effective immediately, all procedures (surgery, cath lab, angiography endoscopy) scheduled at Clarion Hospital during the next two weeks are being evaluated with the physicians performing the procedure to determine if they are nonemergent and could be postponed.

The action is being taken on the recommendation of the U.S. surgeon general, the hospital said in a news release.

If a procedure were to be postponed, the patient would be contacted before the date of the next scheduled procedure, the release said.

In addition, the hospital’s visitation restriction policy will go into effect today at 6 p.m., the release said. All patient entrances with the exception of those noted are closed.

The main entrance to the hospital will remain open to patients daily between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the emergency department is reserved only for emergency cases.

If a patient is not in an emergency health situation or critically ill requiring the need of emergency care, the patient is to contact their physician’s office for guidance and direction before reporting to the emergency department, the release said.

The Cancer Center entrance will remain open and is reserved only for cancer patients, the release said.

On outpatient testing, the hospital asks patients experiencing symptoms of a fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose/congestion or flu-like symptoms to cancel the testing appointment and do not go to the hospital or outpatient locations for walk-in testing (lab, X-ray).

The hospital asks the patient to contact the physician who ordered the test for further direction.

Clarion Hospital will post additional updates at clarionhospital.org.
