Clarion County officials monitoring coronavirus

Clarion County commissioners issued a statement Monday on the county’s efforts to control the coronavirus.

“The COVID-19 virus is a priority to officials in Clarion County,” a statement from the commissioners said. “We have had no confirmed cases of the virus in Clarion County.”

The statement noted the commissioners and the county’s Department of Public Safety have been monitoring the event.

“We are in contact with the Department of Health, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, local public safety agencies, schools and health care providers,” the statement said. “We will continue to monitor the event and will provide information to appropriate agencies and the public.”

The commissioners reminded the public that the coronavirus symptoms are similar to those of regular or seasonal flu and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing.

The county’s Department of Safety and the commissioners said there are some basic steps to help reduce the risk of contracting any flu. Those suggestions include staying home if you are sick, sneezing into your sleeve if you do not have a tissue, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, getting plenty of rest, exercising and checking on neighbors who may be shut-in or limited in their ability to travel.

The Department of Public safety will keep residents informed of any important virus information regarding Clarion County, the statement said.
