Clarion County gets courthouse grant

From staff reports

Clarion County has received a $900,000 grant from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program for rehabilitation work at the county courthouse.

County commissioner Ted Tharan said he heard the good news Friday from state Sen. Scott Hutchinson.

“Now we can start the long awaited renovations of the courthouse basement and get the HVAC fixed,” said Tharan, who added that the goal of the project is to bring everything up to standard.

“We want to restore it so that it will look like it did when it was built in the 1800s,” he said. “We want to make it modern but retain the historic flavor.”

Tharan said architect Amos Rudolph will prepare the plans for the renovation effort.

“Once we find out how much usable space we have then we can determine what we can put in there,” Tharan said. “Now we have funding to get started.”

He hopes the project can begin next year.
