Clarion County elected officials will get pay hikes

Clarion County commissioners unanimously approved pay increases for elected officials at a special meeting Tuesday night.

Commissioner Ted Tharan said the increases were in accordance with state law.

County commissioners can’t vote themselves a pay raise in the current term, and the increase won’t take effect until 2024.

The commissioners voted on a three percent increase for the years 2024 through 2027.

The sheriff and coroner are elected in an odd year so the pay increase will only cover the first two years of their term.

The balance of their term in office will be included in future actions.

Receiving the increase in addition to the coroner and sheriff are the commissioners, treasurer, prothonotary, register and recorder and auditors.

The current salaries for the county’s elected officials are sheriff, $58,460; coroner, $31,645; commissioner, $63,731; treasurer, $60,148; prothonotary, $63,027; register and recorder, $63,027; and auditors, $155.77 per day.

No members of the public attended Tuesday’s meeting.
