Clarion commissioners handle routine business

Clarion County commissioners on Tuesday granted a request from the Cook Forest Vacation Bureau for $7,500 to erect a tower that will provide Wi-Fi connectivity to the tourism businesses.

Half of that amount – $3,750 – would be awarded at the time of approval, and the remaining $3,750 awarded after completion.

Funds for the hotel tax grants are derived from a tax placed on room rentals within the county.

The Cook Forest request was one of four grant requests approved Tuesday by the commissioners.

An application from the Wolf’s Corners Fair Committee for $2,295 for marketing was approved, an application from the St. Joseph 4th of July Committee for $2,000 for marketing was approved, and an agreement with the Clarion Cooperative for a Clarion County phone app was approved in the amount of $10,000 pending legal review.

Commissioners also approved multiple contracts on behalf of Development Disabilities, Early Intervention and Children and Youth Services.

The panel also approved a motion to transfer two used sheriff’s department vehicles to the Clarion County Career Center.

The vehicles were determined to have little or no value.
