Clarion CareerLink lease won’t be renewed

Clarion County CareerLink operations will see some changes soon.

The Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board voted Friday not to renew the lease for the center when it expires in April, leaving its future in doubt. The center is located on Wood Street in Clarion Borough.

“Today we voted to end the lease at the end of April,” said Janet Anderson, director of the Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board. “There are many decisions to be made in the next four months. We can’t say exactly what may happen, but everything is still on the table.”

The Northwest PA CareerLink is a collaborative workforce development system comprised of numerous partner agencies in a six-county region.

“We are required to have one comprehensive site in the region, and currently there are five,” Clarion County commissioner Wayne Brosius said. “There are several possibilities we have to discuss.”

“We’re looking for ways to save money so we aren’t operating in the red,” Brosius added. “The options we have will require a lot of work in the next few months.”
