CL wins 43 medals at academic competition

Clarion-Limestone decathletes took fourth-place in the small and large-school division Feb. 15 and 16 at decathlon regionals at Edinboro University. C-L earned 43 medals and won first-place in the small school division.

Decathletes compete in three divisions: honors, scholastic and varsity. The following C-L decathletes won medals.

Michael Aaron, ninth-grade, honors division: gold in music, social science and art; silver in literature and science; bronze in economics

Kent Carrier, 10th grade, honors division: silver in music and math; bronze in art, economics and science

Samurah Curry, 11th grade, honors division: gold in interview and speech; bronze in math

Sadie Mahle, 12th grade, scholastic division: gold in art, economics, science, interview, speech and math; silver in music; bronze in essay

Mitch Knepp, 11th grade, scholastic division: silver in economics, bronze in speech and social science

Curvin Goheen, 11th grade, scholastic division: silver in music, speech and math

Katie Melcher, 11th grade, varsity division: gold in essay, music, art, literature, economics, science, math and overall score; silver in speech and social science

Robyn Stahlman, ninth grade: gold in speech; silver in essay and math; bronze in music and science

Other members of the C-L team are seniors James Gunning and Lizzy Gruver; juniors Alyssa Clover, Charizma Ferringer, Athia Strohm and Merlin Leadbetter; sophomores Isabela Barboza, Taylor Aites and Levi Orcutt; and freshman Maya Shook, Gavyn Dunn, Hayden Haines, Cara Runyan and Trinity Caro.

C-L qualifies for the state competition March 15 and 16 at Carlisle High School in Carlisle.

USAD Nationals are April 25 to 27 in Bloomington, Minn.
