Brookville man arrested after three-hour standoff

From staff reports

A Brookville man was arrested on strangulation and aggravated assault charges following a three-hour standoff Thursday night into Friday morning in Brookville.

Brookville police said they were called to 106 Geist Way shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday for a report of an assault on a three-year old child.

Police said they determined that the child was strangled and struck in the head and face by a man identified in online court dockets as Glenn Bruce Beal Jr., 35, of Brookville.

A three-hour standoff ensued at the home, according to police.  Officers secured an arrest warrant for Beal during that time, and they said they entered the home at about 1:15 a.m. Friday and took Beal into custody without further incident.

Beal was arraigned later Friday morning before Jefferson County district judge Gregory M. Bazylak on felony counts of strangulation and aggravated assault-victim less than 13 and defendant 18 or older.

He was unable to post $70,000 bail and was placed in the Jefferson County jail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled Feb. 2 in Jefferson County Court.

Brockway police and Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.
