Bring on winter

Chuck Kiley, equipment manager for Butler County PennDOT inspects one of 26 PennDOT trucks located in Clarion County. Each year, PennDOT spends a day just before winter to have all of its trucks and equipment inspected and serviced to ensure they are ready to take on the snow and ice that lies ahead in the upcoming months. Clarion County has 22 routes for the trucks, each with three drivers covering different shifts throughout the day. Clarion PennDOT manager Josh Clinger said depending on the season, they use anywhere between 10,000 and 12,000 tons of salt and his team keeps a proactive response to the weather conditions.
