Brandon’s Dad continues battle against teen DUIs

From staff reports

Brandon’s Dad of Clarion recently spoke at the PENN HOSA Conference at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia.

The PENN HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) conference was attended by 900 students from all across Pennsylvania.

Vernon Hilyer, organizer and executive director of the Brandon’s Dad organization, has traveled most of western Pennsylvania over the last 10 years sharing what has been labeled as a life changing message to students and adults in schools, fairs, and adult probation DUI classes.

The Brandon’s Dad message has been built on Vernon’s son Brandon’s choices he made as he grew through high school and college in Clarion.

Eventually alcohol robbed Brandon of his promising life and his parents’ dreams for him.

On April 17, Hilyer shared his program at the Warren County SADD Conference at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Warren. The Brandon’s Dad PowerPoint program will also be shared at high schools in Washington, Beaver, Butler, Armstrong, Clearfield, Indiana, Venango, Crawford and Clarion counties this prom season.

The organization also has many intoxication (DUI Simulation) goggle activities. One activity includes pedal karts to get a “real to life” feel of being under the influence while in a safe atmosphere.

These simulation activities will be used at A-C Valley, Glendale, and Cambria Heights High Schools this spring. The prom season is Brandon’s Dads busiest time of year as he works to get the message across; No matter the choices that the students make, they need to make it back home safe, and drinking and driving is just not an option.
