One can join the Clarion community “for a smokin’ good time” this Friday and Saturday at the Clarion Mall. The Clarion BBQ Festival will be hosted to benefit the Clarion Hospital Cancer Center and the Clarion Student-Athletic Scholarship Fund.

A $5 donation will let residents partake in the grillin’ and eating starting at 4 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. DB’s Smokin’ BBQs, Triple R, Smokey B’s BBQ, Toby Hill’s Bar and Grill, Rub-n-Tug and Clarion University’s Cheez-O-Man food truck are all signed up to participate in the festival.

Musicians, including Samantha Sears, Mitch Little and Dan Housel, will be entertaining guests Saturday afternoon. Residents can also become part of the entertainment by competing in the Backyard BBQ Contest in which contestants will be judged based on their cooking of chicken, steak and baby back ribs.

The Barrows-Civic Theatre in Franklin will be showing off the musical talents of George and Ira Gershwin in “Nice Work If You Can Get It” this weekend. The two and a half-hour show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday night and at 2 p.m. for a Sunday matinee.
